Fakuma ’09 13th-17th October 2009 A venue not to be missed When it is not time for “K”, everyone working in the injection moulding sector know that there is another unmissable appointment: Fakuma 09 in Friedrichshafen (Germany), a top level venue for injection moulding. Star could not miss this important occasion and this year it is going to display its robots on the stand of three important OEMs in order to show the potential of its products and solutions. Our target is to be close to the customer and, at the same time, be an expert, reliable and innovative partner for OEMs able to supply turn-key solutions.

At Fakuma 2009 we will display 4 different solutions for four different types of products:
A) B.M.B. S.p.A - Hall A5, Stand 5208
1) This automation system will remove and stack on a conveyor four thin-walled food containers. It could seem an easy task, yet his job is made in association with an injection moulding machine with outstanding performance, the BMB full electric model eKW16Pi with a mould with 2+2 cavities, which can mould approximately 5.000 parts per hour. Due to the “stack mould” configuration, side entry is not possible; however, thanks to the excellent characteristics of our standard Zxe-1000 2C-4V robot and a few easy options, we are able to work with this IMM and face this demanding workload. The Zxe-1000 2C-4V robot has 9 servo driven axis and 2 pneumatic cylinders supporting the handling operations. This robot is the best solution on the market for “stack-mould” applications, where side entry is often not possible and moulding cycle are shorter than 4 seconds. The main advantages of this top-entry robot are: - maximum flexibility during production changes; - reduced overall size; - cycle time ≥ 3 seconds.

Total integration between robot’s and IMM controllers The long and productive cooperation with BMB has led our company to integrate our controller model Stec-470 with the controller of the BMB full electric IMMs. This function can be particularly helpful to the operator, who can control on just one colour touch screen display both the cycle of the IMM and the cycle of the robot. These can be then stored on a single mould program. This will allow to display and modify all the programming pages and the robot functions, both on the robot pendant and on the IMM main panel. This gives an idea of how BMB and STAR AUTOMATION work together in order to meet all the needs of the end user and give him a little bit more than other suppliers do.
 B.M.B. S.p.A - Hall A5, Stand 5208
2) At Fakuma ’09 BMB will put in the spotlight its full electric eMc range and display a model with clamping force of 70 ton with high performance as far as precision, energy consumption and price/quality ratio are concerned. The Star robot used on this small IMM is our model ixe-600. This application aims at highlighting the importance of precision in the production of technical items. The mould injects two materials, one produced by the Babyplast injector and the other by the injecting unit of the IMM. The end product is a two-component knob. The robot removes from the mould the end product and the semi-finished product; after this operation, the semi-finished product is repositioned and overinjected.
B) Ferromatik Milacron Maschinenbau GmbH - Hall B3, Stand 3203
3) The performance and flexibility of the Star Automation IML systems will be represented at Fakuma by our most recent machine, the S7 FLEX IML SYSTEM. This machine was shown on our stand at Plast ’09 working in dry-cycle and we now have the chance to show it while working. This application is used on a single-cavity Abate Basilio mould for the IML application of a 5,7 litres food container. The mould is kindly supplied by our Italian customer Co.Be.Plast, with whom we have been closely working for a long time. Rapid and accurate movements during open mould are the main requirements of this application, which is also characterised by very small spaces. However, thanks to the 7 servo-driven axis and the superposition of movements, it is possible to label and stack more than 400 parts per hour. The production cycle and the quality of the product are ensured by the Ferromatik Vitesse 300 IMM, with clamping force of 300 ton., designed for packaging applications, one of the fields Ferromatik is specialised in. The S7 Flex model guarantees high flexibility since the IML application can be easily switched in just a few minutes from the application on round containers to lids or rectangular containers with cycles time of 4 seconds.

C) Fanuc Roboshot GmbH - Hall B3, Stand 3108
4) Our long-lasting relationship with Fanuc is renowned and Fakuma will be an excellent showcase to enhance precision and quality of injection moulding, with special attention to the handling of the product beside the IMM. On an IMM model Roboshot S-2000i100B, which will be moulding battery covers for mobile phones, we will install our basic robot Gxe-1000 that will be used for the removal and stack mould of the product on an automatic pallet changer model I-70III. Thanks to the combination between robot and pallet changer, it will be possible to combine high autonomy in production and reduced spaces. The product, which is tidily placed in containers, could be easily transferred to assembly departments for superficial treatments and any other process required in the moulding room or in any other department.

Our technical and sales staff will be present during all the exhibition in all the above stands and will be happy to analyse any request.
Finally, we would like to thank BMB Spa, Ferromatik Milacron Baschinenbau GmbH, Fanuc Roboshot Europe GmbH for giving us the opportunity to be at their side during Fakuma ’09.
We hope that every visitor will appreciate the quality of our work, which will be once more the protagonist of an important international exhibition. We trust that the brand Star will be more and more present and appreciated and we look forward to meeting all of you in Friedrichsafen.
